Jobs and Recruiters in Dubai, the United Arab
Emirates and Gulf States and the Middle East
About
the U.A.E.
UAE is a
union between seven formerly independent
sheikdoms Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai,
Fyjairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain. UAE
is about twice the size of Denmark -83.600 square
kilometers. Dubai is the 2nd largest of 7 Emirates
(Cities), Abu Dhabi being the largest sheikdom and the
Capital of the UAE.
Lying at the north-eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula,
the UAE is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the South and West
and Oman to the North and East.
Beautiful beaches dot the countrys 1.318 kilometers
of coastline - the most of which comprised by The Arabian
Gulf littered by coral reefs and more than 200
islands. The UAE has a population of over 3.500.000.
Dubai has more than one million. Dubai is expected to
triple in size in the next 15 years.
The
leaders of the UAE have a clear view of the future. They
know, that the original basis of their wealth, the UAE's
oil and gas resources, are due to run out in about 10 to
15 years. To compensate for that, they have been
investing their surplus through their sovereign wealth
fund into new areas, with the goal of creating an
environment for growth, progress and economic
development. This had already an effect on the economy,
and oil and gas output in 2008 contributed just around 6%
of the UAE's economic output.
Despite
the current financial crisis (2009), the UAE been
successful in secureing major investments in large
European financial institutions, as well as industrial
companies. At the same time, the major effort of Dubai
and Qatar, to become the regional financial services
center serving the worlds biggest oil producing
region hads taken off and is well on course.
Jobs
and Recruitment in the U.A.E.
There
are large numbers of recruiters in the UAE. However, most
of them will only accept CV's/Resumes for specific open
jobs, Therefore, trying mail shots to recruiters
and employers is a fruitless undertaking and might get
you black listed by many recruiters. You should also be
aware that for jobs in the Middle East, Jobs in Dubai and
the other Gulf States, the American type resume is not
adequate for an employment application in the UAE (or
the Middle East in general). You have to create a European
style Curriculum Vitae which has to contain
information such as marital status, number of children,
religion, dates and places of birth and language skills.
Also, don't be vague with educational
qualification, but do not include
your civic activity (outside your career qualifications
and work experience), unless it is strictly relevant, to
the job you apply for. Do not include social security
numbers and Security Clearances (unless you apply for a
job in the local military), since they have no relevance
in this area.
Remember,
employers in the UAE, Oman and much of the Middle East can
buy the best of the best employees that the world has to
offer.
|
|
So you
will have considerable competition, especially at
the top end of the professional ladder, and when
the salary offered for the job, is high. If you
need any advice, we have many years of
involvement with employers in the Middle East
(Foreign and local). We can help you prepare a
proper Curriculum Vitae, prepare you for an
interview and support you in many other ways.
Send us an e-mail.

Some
help in getting your Resume right!
The key
to landing a good job in the Middle East, or a
job in Dubai and the Gulf States, besides the
required education and experience, is a good
effective resume or Curriculum Vitae and a successful
interview. The resume/CV is the item that will
get your foot into the door and will determine whether
you will get to the stage of the interview. Remember,
Middle Eastern employers can get the best educated people
in the world! So competition is high. We can offer you
some help for the resume
creation as well as coaching and advice
for the interview. The links below
might also be of help.

How
many days annual leave is permitted under the UAE Labour
Law?
The UAE
Labour Law states that an employees who have worked for 1
year or more is entitled to holiday leave of 30 days per
year and when the employees are terminated the employees
are entitled to "annual leave in respect of
fractions of the last year". The terms
"day" and "year" are not defined in
the UAE Labour Law. According to the Labour Department
"day" means any calendar day (including
weekends and public holidays) and "year" means
the 12 months calculated from the effective date of the
employee's employment. The interpretation is therefore
that this refers to 30 calendar days.

Housing
and Accommodation in the UAE
The UAE
law does not permit a non-UAE citizen to buy property.
Therefore rented accomodation is the standard. The rental
prices in the UAE depend on the Emirate and the location
within each Emirate. For example, rents in Dubai and Abu
Dhabi are higher than Sharjah or Ajman. In Dubai the
prices of villas can start at Dh 75,000 and easily reach
Dh 500,000 (US$ 11,500 per month for about 3,000 sq feet)
and up per annum (US$ 1.00 = Dh 3.65). To find a villa,
you can check the Gulf News Properties.
To rent an apartment, you should expect to pay between Dh
60,000 (per annum - about US$1,400 per month) for a
decent studio to Dh 120,000 p.a.(about US$ 2,750 per
month) for a nice two-bedroom apartment of about 1000 sq
feet.
There are also furnished apartments available on
short-term and long-term basis.
