the forced departure of Blackwater security personnel
from Iraq (news, February 10, 2010), has led to some
fears that other contractor operations will also be
targeted. To date, there is no evidence of that, since
the particular contractors problem, is linked to a very
specific incidence. In fact, it is more likely, that jobs
vacated by that company will be taken up by new personnel
working for other companies.
There
are still more than 100,000 foreign employees working
with the Coalition forces, or companies. directly or
indirectly, associated with their activity in Iraq and
about 40,000 in Afghanistan. About 50,000 of them are
employed by American contractors. The activities of jobs
the people are employed, range from security, to
communication and repair facilities, to reconstruction of
infrastructure and, entertainment or supplying the
troops. Working in Iraq or Afghanistan, is not without
danger. But, there have still been relatively few
casualties amongst the foreign workers. The pay
is excellent and the prospects are good for doing two or
more tours. And
This is, obviously, an additional
attraction, that is rated highly!
